Psychological Assessment Training:
A review of new topics in police and public safety

This continuing education (CE) offering is suitable for experienced public safety psychologists. The first presentation reviews HIPAA in the context of pre-employment public safety assessment. Implications of the law for telehealth practice are discussed. The second presentation discusses the newly amended CA Gov. Code Section 1031(f) and it's requirement to screen out explicit and implicit bia among law enforcement applicants. The third presentation reviews a new data analysis investigating bias and its correlates in the police applicant population. The fourth presentation provides instruction on drafting pre-employment psychological assessment reports, with particular focus on integrating data related to potential bias. The final presentation discusses the use of dynamic questionnaires for assessing law enforcement candidates and provides examples of how to improve the collection of relevant background data using these tools.
