A Review of Recent Developments in the Field of Public Safety Psychology Related to VA Disability Benefits, Psychological Test Validity, and HIPAA Compliance in the Digital Age
This continuing education (CE) offering is suitable for experienced public safety psychologists. The first presentation reviews the VA disability benefit system. Implications of these disability awards for complying with the ADA are discussed. The second presentation discusses new external validity findings supporting the use of the California Psychological Inventory and the Personality Assessment Inventory. The third presentation introduces a new short form of the California Psychological Inventory and discusses its use in the assessment of public safety candidates. The fourth presentation reviews HIPAA regulations that impact public safety psychologists, discusses related security issues, and gives practical guidance to maintain security and confidentiality. The final presentation reviews best practices and provides practical guidance on writing informative and defensible psychological reports when assessing public safety candidates.
