A Review of Recent Developments in the Field of Public Safety Psychology Related to Changes in Quality of the Applicant Pool, Current Trends in Fitness-For-Duty Evaluations, Telehealth Practice, and Assessing Bias
This continuing education (CE) offering is suitable for experienced public safety psychologists. The first presentation reviews recent developments in public safety organizations' hiring process and challenges stemming from a lower quality applicant pool. The second presentation consists of empirical analyses investigating the prevalence of FFDEs, the rates of reasons for referral, and psychological test scales pre- and post-Pandemic. The third presentation discusses best practices of telehealth for proctoring and conducting psychological interviews. Empirical data is presented analyzing differences on psychological tests and final assessment ratings obtained in an in-person setting and a telehealth setting. The final presentation analyzes data concerning base rates, behavioral correlates, and psychological test correlates of admissions to explicit bias among public safety applicants.
